Deputy Head of Transport – Senior Leadership Role

About the role

The Deputy Head of Transport will support the strategic leadership and operational management of a large‑scale transport and logistics network across either Northern or Southern Nigeria. Reporting to the Head of Transport, this senior role ensures safe, reliable and cost‑effective movement of raw materials and finished products.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Head of Transport in implementing transport strategy, policies and operating procedures for the assigned region.
• Lead inbound and outbound transport operations, maintaining high safety and reliability standards.
• Oversee optimisation of a large fleet, including route planning, vehicle allocation and turnaround‑time improvement.
• Monitor KPIs, drive corrective actions to improve fleet utilisation, delivery performance and cost efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with transport regulations, HSE standards and internal service‑level requirements.
• Manage relationships with contractors, third‑party logistics providers and regulatory authorities.
• Support fleet modernisation, procurement of new equipment and adoption of telematics and digital logistics solutions.
• Collaborate with Production, Sales, Procurement, Engineering and Supply Chain teams for seamless logistics execution.
• Develop regional risk mitigation and business continuity plans.
• Lead, coach and develop regional transport management teams.

Required profile

• Executive‑level experience with at least 15 years in transport, logistics or fleet management.
• Proven track record in managing large, multi‑site transport operations.
• Strong knowledge of transport regulations, HSE standards and cost optimisation techniques.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop senior transport teams.
