About the role
A leading Nigerian commercial law firm specialising in sophisticated non‑contentious and transactional work is seeking an experienced Senior Associate to join its growing team in Lagos. This role offers the chance to work on complex commercial transactions and provide high‑quality legal and commercial advice across a range of practice areas.
Key responsibilities
- Advise corporate and institutional clients on complex commercial, corporate and transactional matters, drafting and negotiating agreements and transaction documents.
- Conduct detailed legal research, regulatory analysis and due diligence, translating findings into practical commercial advice.
- Support and lead complex commercial transactions from structuring and due diligence through negotiation, documentation and completion.
- Provide counsel on corporate structures, governance, compliance, risk management and regulatory requirements.
- Work on mergers and acquisitions, private equity investments, joint ventures, restructurings and strategic transactions.
- Manage transaction workstreams, coordinate with clients and professional advisers, and ensure timely, high‑quality delivery.
- Supervise and mentor junior associates, maintaining strong client relationships and staying abreast of developments in Nigerian commercial law.
Required profile
- LL.B or equivalent law degree; called to the Nigerian Bar and authorised to practise law in Nigeria.
- Minimum 6 years post‑NYSC professional experience in legal practice, preferably within a commercial law firm or comparable professional services organisation.
- Demonstrable expertise in one or more areas such as Corporate & Commercial, Energy/Power/Infrastructure, Finance & Capital Markets, Private Equity, Real Estate & Construction, Technology/Digital Economy, Tax Advisory or Corporate Governance.
- Excellent legal drafting, contract review, negotiation, research and analytical skills, with strong written and verbal communication.
- Ability to manage multiple matters, meet deadlines and work independently while collaborating with partners and multidisciplinary teams.
- An LL.M or other relevant postgraduate qualification is an advantage.
