Microbiology Laboratory Analyst

About the role

The Microbiology Laboratory Analyst will join our scientific team in Lagos to perform routine and specialised microbiological testing on a variety of samples, including water, food, beverages, pharmaceuticals and industrial products. The role supports quality assurance and regulatory compliance within an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited environment.

Key responsibilities

• Receive, register, label and prepare samples for microbiological analysis.
• Conduct microbiological testing using approved methods for water, wastewater, food, beverages, environmental, pharmaceutical and industrial samples.
• Prepare culture media, reagents and standard solutions following established procedures.
• Perform microbial isolation, identification, enumeration, sterility testing, microbial limit testing and environmental monitoring.
• Operate, calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment such as incubators, autoclaves, colony counters and microscopes.
• Record, analyse and interpret test results, and generate accurate laboratory reports.
• Ensure compliance with ISO/IEC 17025, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), SOPs and quality‑assurance requirements.
• Participate in method validation, verification, internal and external audits, and accreditation activities.
• Maintain documentation, sample traceability and inventory of media, reagents and consumables.
• Handle biological waste according to biosafety and decontamination protocols.

Required profile

• HND in Microbiology or a related discipline (post‑graduate qualification is a plus).
• 1–2 years of post‑qualification experience in a microbiology, environmental, food, pharmaceutical or quality‑control laboratory.
• Experience in an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory is advantageous.
