Junior Legal Officer (Oil & Gas)

About the role

We are a leading downstream oil & gas company in Nigeria seeking a diligent and detail‑oriented Junior Legal Officer. The role supports internal advisory services, dispute resolution, and corporate compliance across our expanding operations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide internal legal advice on operational matters and support dispute resolution and negotiations.
• Ensure corporate activities comply with applicable laws and regulations.
• Prepare and maintain company‑wide compliance check‑lists.
• Assist in corporate, litigation, and regulatory matters, including filing annual returns with the CAC, attending court proceedings, conducting legal searches, and monitoring title perfection at land registries.
• Liaise with external counsel to follow up on pending litigation.
• Support contract lifecycle management: drafting, vetting, negotiating, and maintaining proper filing of executed contracts and corporate records.
• Perform other duties as assigned in line with operational requirements.

Required profile

• Minimum B, BL degree with at least Second Class Upper Division.
• 3–5 years post‑call experience, including at least 3 years in a law firm.
• Oil & gas industry experience of 2+ years is an advantage.
• Excellent business writing and drafting abilities.
• Strong relationship‑management and communication skills for internal and external stakeholders.
• High sense of confidentiality and professionalism.
