IT Intern – Lagos

About the role

The British Council is offering a short‑term IT internship in Lagos, providing students and recent graduates with hands‑on experience supporting the organisation’s ICT infrastructure. You will work alongside the ICT Officer and Country ICT Manager, learning core IT processes while contributing to daily operations.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in the implementation, maintenance and monitoring of the ICT environment across the Nigeria main office.
• Provide first‑ and second‑level technical support to staff, escalating issues when necessary.
• Support vendor management and help with the rollout of hardware, software and network upgrades.
• Monitor server performance (Windows Server 2016), LAN and Internet connectivity, and perform routine checks.
• Help secure systems against external threats and ensure compliance with software licences.
• Participate in local IT projects, including GIS‑related initiatives.
• Maintain documentation and follow change‑management procedures.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recent graduate of a relevant IT or Computer Science programme.
• Strong interest in ICT infrastructure and service delivery.
• Good communication skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of Windows Server 2016.
• Understanding of LAN and Internet networking concepts.
• Familiarity with GIS tools is a plus.
