HVAC/R Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a skilled HVAC/R Engineer to join our team in Lagos. The role involves installing, commissioning, and maintaining HVAC and refrigeration systems for our manufacturing and warehousing operations. The successful candidate will ensure optimal performance, energy efficiency, and compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Install, commission, and maintain HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on air‑conditioning systems, chillers, cold rooms, freezers, and ventilation systems.
• Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and refrigeration faults.
• Inspect equipment and recommend repairs or replacements.
• Recover, evacuate, charge, and safely handle refrigerants.
• Read and interpret electrical diagrams, wiring schematics, and mechanical drawings.
• Monitor system performance and optimize energy efficiency.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, inspection reports, and service documentation.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and manufacturer specifications.
• Respond promptly to emergency breakdowns to minimize downtime.
• Coordinate with contractors, technicians, and other engineering personnel during installations and maintenance activities.

Required profile

• Minimum OND in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, HVAC/Refrigeration Engineering, Building Services Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering.
• 3–5+ years of experience in HVAC and refrigeration installation, maintenance, and repair, preferably in commercial or industrial settings.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and under pressure.
• Good time‑management and organizational skills.

Required skills

• Installation, maintenance and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems.
• Experience with chillers, split units, package units, VRF/VRV systems, cold rooms and industrial freezers.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and wiring diagrams.
• Proficiency with manifold gauge set, digital multimeter, clamp meter, vacuum pump, refrigerant recovery machine, leak detector and pressure testing equipment.
• Understanding of refrigeration cycle, superheat, subcooling and psychrometrics.
• Troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical and control system faults.
