Head of Software Engineering

About the role

We are looking for a visionary Head of Software Engineering to shape the technical foundation of our logistics platform. You will drive the architecture, lead the final sprint to production, and build a high‑performing engineering team as we scale.

Key responsibilities

• Define and own the overall technical architecture and engineering strategy.
• Lead the final development sprint and ensure a smooth production launch.
• Review, refactor, and strengthen the existing codebase and application architecture.
• Design, implement, and optimise backend services, APIs, databases and real‑time systems.
• Build and enhance dispatch and rider‑assignment infrastructure, integrating payment platforms such as Paystack and Flutterwave.
• Manage cloud infrastructure, monitoring, uptime, and system reliability.
• Establish engineering standards for code quality, testing, documentation and deployment, including CI/CD pipelines.
• Oversee application security, data protection and access controls.
• Identify and remove technical bottlenecks before they affect scaling.
• Collaborate with Operations, Product and the CEO to prioritise the roadmap.
• Recruit, mentor and lead the engineering team, setting KPIs and delivery standards.
• Own incident response, root‑cause analysis and continuous improvement.

Required profile

• 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 2–3 years in a technical leadership, architecture or engineering‑management role.
• Proven track record delivering consumer‑facing applications to production and scaling them reliably.
• Strong communication skills with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
• Experience in logistics, marketplace, fintech or delivery technology domains.
