Database Engineer – Hybrid (Yaba, Lagos)

About the role

Paga is seeking a Database Engineer to join its product development team in Yaba, Lagos. The role is hybrid, combining on‑site collaboration with remote work, and focuses on building and maintaining high‑performance databases that support millions of users across Africa.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain relational databases (Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL).
• Write, test, and optimise stored procedures, functions, triggers, and scripts.
• Monitor and improve database performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks.
• Collaborate with software engineers to support application development and data integration.
• Conduct thorough testing of query results and impact of write operations before production deployment.
• Evaluate existing data storage solutions and recommend enhancements for efficiency.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related discipline.
• 1–6 years of hands‑on database programming experience.
• Experience working in an Agile product development environment.

Required skills

• Advanced SQL programming.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL (plus) and MySQL (plus).
• Database performance optimisation techniques.
• Understanding of NoSQL data sources.
