Business Development Manager – Supermarket & Retail

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to expand our presence in Nigeria’s supermarket, convenience store and grocery market. You will lead direct sales and build channel partnerships, onboarding independent shops and retail chains to adopt our POS terminals and payment services.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and engage decision‑makers such as store owners, managers, franchise operators and retail association leaders.
• Negotiate and close agreements to install POS terminals in supermarkets, convenience stores and standalone grocery shops.
• Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of retail merchants across Nigeria, focusing on Lagos and other major cities.
• Establish channel partnerships with retail associations, trade unions and shopping‑mall management.
• Prepare and deliver sales presentations, proposals and product demonstrations.
• Monitor merchant performance, provide market feedback and competitive intelligence.

Required profile

• Minimum 3 years of B2B sales or business development experience in Nigeria’s supermarket or general retail sector.
• Proven track record of onboarding at least 20 retail stores, including 5+ supermarket or chain convenience stores.
• Experience generating or managing ₦800 M+ annual transaction volume or a portfolio of 20+ active merchants with 200+ POS terminals.
• Existing network of retail shop owners, supermarket managers or market union leaders.
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines under pressure and demonstrate a goal‑oriented mindset.
