Yard Planner

About the role

APM Terminals is seeking a Yard Planner to develop and maintain yard plans that support safe and efficient container terminal operations. You will work closely with vessel planning, dispatch, equipment control, gate operations and frontline teams to balance vessel connections, yard capacity and productivity targets.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain yard plans for import, export, empty, reefer, hazardous, out‑of‑gauge and special cargo in line with approved strategies.
• Allocate suitable yard locations for vessel discharge containers based on cargo type, service requirements and operational priorities.
• Plan export‑container positioning to enable efficient vessel loading, quick retrieval and minimal rehandling.
• Monitor live vessel, yard and gate activities using Navis N4, XPS and other approved operational applications.
• Coordinate with Vessel Planning, Dispatch, Equipment Control, Gate Operations and frontline teams to align plans with execution.
• Identify, manage and escalate planning exceptions, congestion risks and special‑cargo discrepancies.
• Maintain accurate planning information, support shift handovers and contribute to root‑cause analysis and continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Continuous‑improvement mindset with curiosity about work processes.
• Bachelor’s degree or HND in Logistics, Supply Chain, Maritime Studies, Transport Management, Engineering, Business Administration or related field.
• Relevant experience in container‑terminal operations, yard or vessel planning, dispatching or equipment control.
• Sound knowledge of terminal yard allocation, stacking principles and container flow management.
• Ability to work under pressure, adapt to changing priorities and cover rotational shifts (nights, weekends, public holidays).
• Strong analytical, planning, organizational, communication and problem‑solving skills with a clear commitment to safety and HSSE standards.
