Yard Manager - Marine Works

About the role

Adexen, acting on behalf of a leading international construction and marine engineering company, is recruiting an experienced Yard Manager for a major port rehabilitation project in Lagos, Nigeria. The project covers large-scale marine works, heavy civil construction, concrete production, precast operations, heavy lifting equipment and fleet management. The Yard Manager oversees all yard operations and ensures efficient management of resources, equipment, materials and personnel.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage yard activities safely, efficiently and cost-effectively, setting procedures, workflows and performance standards
• Coordinate the movement, storage and allocation of materials, equipment and construction assets, and optimise use of yard facilities
• Oversee multiple concrete batching plants and precast production, coordinating with construction and marine teams
• Manage a large fleet of construction equipment, lifting machinery, trucks and vehicles, including preventive maintenance and spare parts
• Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics, monitor inventory and help forecast equipment and material needs
• Promote a strong safety culture, ensure compliance with HSE standards and local regulations, and lead incident investigations
• Lead, mentor and develop supervisors, operators and mechanics; manage workforce planning, performance evaluations and training

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Mechanical, Civil or Construction Engineering or a related field
• At least 15 years of experience in heavy construction, marine works, infrastructure, mining, military engineering or large industrial operations
• Proven experience managing large construction yards, equipment fleets and workforces exceeding 300 people
• Experience in Africa, including remote or challenging environments, and in complex multicultural teams
• Background in former military engineering corps, military logistics, naval engineering or similar highly structured environments
• Experience on major port, marine, mining, oil & gas, EPC or large infrastructure projects

Required skills
