WASH and Construction Officer (Katsina, Nigeria)

About the role

The WASH and Construction Officer will provide technical oversight for construction and rehabilitation activities within Save the Children’s Education in Emergencies project in Katsina and Yobe states. The role ensures that classrooms, temporary learning spaces, latrines, hand‑washing facilities and boreholes are built to safety, accessibility and quality standards, supporting safe and inclusive learning environments for crisis‑affected children.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct needs assessments and feasibility studies for classrooms, TLS, WASH facilities and related infrastructure.
• Prepare architectural and engineering designs, drawings, Bills of Quantities (BoQ), specifications and cost estimates.
• Develop tender documentation and support procurement processes in coordination with the Supply Chain team.
• Supervise contractors, conduct regular site visits and monitor construction quality against Save the Children standards.
• Produce monitoring reports using standardized tools and maintain construction quality checklists.
• Collaborate closely with Education, Child Protection and Supply Chain teams, as well as local stakeholders.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary education in civil engineering, construction management, architecture or a related field.
• Experience in managing construction or rehabilitation projects in humanitarian or development settings.
• Ability to work in the field with at least 40% travel to project sites.
• Strong understanding of WASH standards and disability‑friendly design.
