Utility Engineer

About the role

A utility engineer is needed to operate, monitor and maintain the plant's utility systems so that production can run continuously. The role covers generators, boilers, chillers, air compressors, pumps, cooling towers, AHUs, water and wastewater treatment plants, boreholes and utility distribution systems, and works closely with Production, Quality, HSE, Procurement and Stores.

Key responsibilities

• Operate, monitor and maintain utility equipment to support production activities.
• Carry out preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance on generators, boilers, chillers, air compressors, pumps, cooling towers, AHUs, WTP, WWTP, boreholes and other utility systems.
• Respond quickly to breakdowns, diagnose faults and take corrective action to minimise downtime.
• Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements to reliability and efficiency.
• Run preventive maintenance schedules according to OEM recommendations and company plans.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment history, inspection reports and performance logs.
• Coordinate with Production, Quality, HSE, Procurement and Stores for timely maintenance and spare parts.
• Monitor utility consumption and support cost-saving initiatives.
• Ensure systems comply with safety, environmental and quality standards.
• Assist in annual servicing, shutdown maintenance, inspections and continuous improvement.
• Identify equipment deficiencies and recommend corrective or preventive actions.
• Support the training of technicians on operation, maintenance and safety.

Required profile

• HND, ND or B.Sc in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• 2-4 years of hands-on experience in utility O&M in an FMCG or manufacturing setting.
• Experience with power generation, WTP, WWTP, air compressors, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, AHUs, boreholes and utility distribution.
• Strong knowledge of preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance.
• Ability to troubleshoot faults and interpret engineering drawings, manuals and documentation.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, planning and communication skills, working safely and with quality standards.
