Steel Fixer

About the role

Ascentech is seeking a skilled Steel Fixer to join its construction team in Lagos. You will be responsible for preparing and installing reinforcement steel for a variety of concrete structures, ensuring compliance with project specifications and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Read and interpret structural drawings and Bar Bending Schedules (BBS) to determine reinforcement requirements.
• Measure, cut, bend, and assemble reinforcement steel bars according to specifications.
• Install and secure reinforcing steel for foundations, columns, beams, slabs, walls, staircases, and other concrete elements.
• Tie reinforcement bars using binding wire, maintaining correct spacing and positioning before concrete placement.
• Collaborate with site engineers, supervisors, carpenters, and other personnel to ensure quality and timely completion.
• Inspect reinforcement work for compliance with drawings, standards, and regulations.
• Operate and maintain steel cutting and bending equipment safely and efficiently.

Required profile

• Minimum SSCE, Trade Test Certificate, or relevant vocational qualification.
• At least 24 months of proven experience as a Steel Fixer (Iron Bender) in building or civil construction.
• Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and Bar Bending Schedules.
• Strong knowledge of reinforcement fixing techniques and construction methods.
• Familiarity with construction site safety practices.
