Shift Engineer, Power Plant

About the role

Dangote Industries Limited is looking for a Shift Engineer for its Ibese Plant power plant. The engineer supervises the shift operations of their assigned area so that the plant runs efficiently, handles the control room and DCS independently, and keeps the unit running during startups and shutdowns.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and control the operating parameters of all equipment in the assigned area and record them
• Handle emergencies in the assigned area and assist the shift manager
• Manage process and service unit startups and shutdowns without affecting units that must stay online
• Operate the power plant control room and the DCS independently
• Handle the BOP area and ensure housekeeping of the assigned area
• Avoid equipment stoppages caused by human error
• Prepare SOPs covering system descriptions, logics, interlocks and operating procedures for in-house training
• Maintain activity and maintenance records and update important parameters in the control room PC

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering with a Power option, or an equivalent in a relevant discipline
• At least 5 years of relevant experience in a gas-based power plant, including at least 2 years in the control room

Required skills

• In-depth understanding of power plant systems and their interactions
• Good oral and written communication, networking and teamwork skills
• Problem analysis and solving skills
• Proficiency in office productivity tools
• Knowledge of SAP production report preparation
• Good knowledge of applicable ISO standards
