Senior Legal Officer

About the role

FairMoney is building the leading mobile banking and POS platform for emerging markets in Africa. The Senior Legal Officer will provide high‑quality legal, company secretarial and cross‑border advisory support to the bank and related entities, working closely with the General Counsel/Company Secretary.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements such as vendor contracts, partnership agreements, data‑sharing agreements, agency arrangements, loan documentation and service level agreements.
• Provide timely legal opinions to business units, EXCO and internal stakeholders on routine operational matters.
• Review regulatory correspondence, CBN circulars and industry consultation papers affecting the bank.
• Manage external counsel engagements, including briefing, fee oversight and quality control.
• Support dispute resolution, preparing demand notices, pre‑litigation correspondence and coordinating litigation counsel.
• Maintain the contract register, legal templates library and standard form agreements.
• Assist in preparing agendas, board papers, management presentations and resolutions for Board and committee meetings.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with several years of experience in commercial and banking law.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently with sound judgment and commercial awareness.
• Experience handling multi‑jurisdictional legal issues and regulatory compliance.
• Strong drafting and negotiation skills.
