Senior Generator Operator

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Generator Operator to lead the operation and monitoring of diesel and gas generators at our Lagos facility. The role includes supervising junior operators and ensuring reliable power supply for our manufacturing processes.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor diesel and gas generators according to procedures and manufacturer recommendations.
• Lead and supervise Junior Generator Operators during routine and emergency operations.
• Perform start‑up, synchronization, loading, unloading, change‑over and shutdown of generators.
• Monitor key parameters such as RPM, voltage, frequency, current, temperature, oil pressure, battery voltage and fuel level.
• Conduct routine inspections of generators, control panels, fuel/gas systems, cooling systems and related equipment.
• Identify alarms, abnormal readings, noises, overheating, leaks and coordinate first‑level troubleshooting with maintenance teams.
• Maintain accurate operating logs covering running hours, load, consumption, alarms and faults.

Required profile

• OND, HND or relevant technical qualification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Power Systems or related field.
• Minimum 5 years practical experience operating diesel and gas generators in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Proven experience with industrial‑scale generator systems, synchronization and load sharing.
• Willingness to work shifts, including weekends and public holidays, and to relocate to Ibeju‑Lekki.

Required skills

• Generator operation and synchronization.
• Load management and change‑over procedures.
• Understanding of generator control panels, protection systems and alarms.
• Knowledge of electrical parameters: voltage, current, frequency, power factor.
• Diesel engine systems: fuel, lubrication, cooling, starting, charging and exhaust.
• Basic to intermediate troubleshooting of electrical, mechanical and engine‑related faults.
• Familiarity with PTW, LOTO and safe diesel/gas handling practices.
