Senior Full-Stack Engineer (Backend-Oriented)

About the role

Commit is seeking a senior full-stack engineer with a strong backend focus to design, build and scale data-intensive services in Lisbon. The role combines high-scale backend architecture with occasional front-end work in React, and operates in a hybrid environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services using TypeScript, Node.js and NestJS.
• Build and optimise Kafka-based data pipelines for high-volume ingestion and processing.
• Implement event-driven architectures, including producers, consumers, streaming workflows and batching.
• Own PostgreSQL data modelling, schema design, query optimisation and performance tuning.
• Integrate Redis and other supporting data stores where required.
• Deploy, operate and optimise production services on AWS and Kubernetes.
• Implement observability through logging, metrics and distributed tracing.
• Troubleshoot production incidents, profile performance and improve system reliability.
• Contribute to React front-end development by creating new pages and small UI enhancements.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Based in Lisbon, Portugal or willing to relocate.
• Strong production experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
• Hands-on experience with NestJS and building high-scale backend systems.
• Proven expertise with Kafka, event-driven architectures and streaming pipelines.
• Advanced knowledge of PostgreSQL, including schema design and performance tuning.
• Experience with Redis, AWS and Kubernetes environments.
• Familiarity with monitoring, logging and distributed tracing tools.
