Senior Dental Surgeon (MS03) - Benin

About the role

The Senior Dental Surgeon provides comprehensive dental care, independently assessing, diagnosing and managing patients within their professional competence. The role supports consultant-led clinical services, supervises junior medical officers and trainees and contributes to clinical governance, patient safety and continuous improvement in dental service delivery. It is based in Benin, Nigeria, reports to the Consultant / Head of Department, Dentistry and carries a monthly salary of N1,110,025.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct dental assessments, establish diagnoses and develop treatment plans.
• Manage outpatient and inpatient cases, escalating complex ones when needed.
• Support consultant-led clinics, ward rounds, procedures and multidisciplinary patient management.
• Supervise, mentor and appraise junior medical officers and trainees.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and take part in clinical audits, quality improvement, infection prevention and control and patient-safety activities.
• Collaborate with nursing, pharmacy, radiology, laboratory and managed-care teams, and support HMO processes through proper documentation and cost-effective practice.
• Keep registration, practising licence and continuing professional development up to date.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS or BChD) or equivalent, registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).
• Completed housemanship/internship and NYSC, or a valid exemption.
• At least 5 years of post-NYSC clinical experience, including supervising junior personnel and working in a multidisciplinary hospital setting.
• Full MDCN registration, valid annual practising licence and good professional standing; desirable: postgraduate training and progress toward dental fellowship exams.
