Senior Cost Engineer (Well Engineering)

About the role

The Senior Cost Engineer (Well Engineering) will provide expert cost engineering support for onshore and offshore exploration, appraisal and production assets, with a primary focus on well engineering projects. The role ensures robust cost control, budgeting, forecasting and reporting across the project portfolio.

Key responsibilities

• Establish and maintain cost control frameworks for drilling programmes, aligned with company Project Management Systems.
• Compile, verify and report monthly budget, commitment, Value of Work Done (VOWD) and Anticipated Final Cost (AFC) figures, including variance analysis.
• Maintain accurate cost allocation across ventures and JV cost‑sharing structures.
• Monitor and challenge contractor progress and VOWD reports using deliverable registers and progress reports.
• Develop and maintain project‑specific Cost Control Procedures and tools.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates, AFEs and budget submissions for drilling campaigns and capital projects.
• Coordinate approvals through governance channels and prepare cost forecasts for funding requests and change order evaluations.
• Collaborate with Finance, Supply Chain, Commercial and Legal teams on Cost Sharing Agreements and JV cost‑recharge frameworks.
• Review, verify and challenge contractor invoices, change orders and claims.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in cost engineering for well engineering or drilling projects.
• Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, cost control and variance analysis.
• Familiarity with joint‑venture cost‑sharing structures and commercial coordination.
• Ability to work closely with finance, technical and commercial teams.
