Senior Backend Engineer – Real-time Property Feed

About the role

Expert Listing is building a real‑time property feed that lets agents, developers and owners share listings, videos and updates instantly. As a Senior Backend Engineer you will design and own the server‑side architecture that powers this high‑traffic social feature.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement the end‑to‑end backend for the real‑time feed, including delivery, ranking and push notifications.
• Build a media processing pipeline for image compression, video transcoding and CDN integration.
• Implement geospatial filtering and location‑based ranking logic.
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and real‑time communication channels (WebSockets/SSE).
• Optimize PostgreSQL queries, indexing and caching strategies using Redis.
• Deploy and manage cloud infrastructure on AWS or GCP.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience.
• Deep expertise in Python and frameworks such as Django, FastAPI or Flask.
• Proven experience designing scalable RESTful APIs.
• Hands‑on experience with real‑time technologies (WebSockets, Server‑Sent Events).
• Background in media processing pipelines and CDN integration.
• Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL, query optimisation and indexing.
• Experience with caching (Redis) and cloud platforms (AWS or GCP).
