School Accountant

About the role

Jewels Leading Lights Academy is hiring a School Accountant in Abuja (Marina). The post covers billing, accounts payable and receivable, payroll and pension administration, budget monitoring and bank reconciliation, and advises the Directors and committees on compliance with legislation such as FIRS and PENCOM.

Key responsibilities

• Manage accounts payable and receivable, recover outstanding amounts and organize handbooks
• Administer payroll and pension-related functions, including submitting timesheets, new starter/leaver/variation forms and annual returns on time
• Monitor income and expenditure against the school's budget and produce monthly reports for the Directors, Headteacher and Finance Committee
• Keep school accounts, prepare income and expenditure reports and submit accounts to the auditors
• Maintain and reconcile bank accounts and debit cards, report banking errors to the line manager
• Oversee cash handling, collections, disbursements, banking, security, fundraising and school trips
• Process orders through the computerized finance accounting system and scrutinize invoices and statements of account with nominated staff
• Analyze costs and statistics, coordinate approved contractors and suppliers and advise the Directors and committees
• Ensure all administrative checks, documentation, reports and returns are accurate and submitted on time

Required profile

• Minimum qualification of a degree
• Experience in customer service account management, which is described as pivotal to the role
• Ability to evaluate, analyze and make critical decisions
• Willingness to carry out administrative and supervisory functions
