Protection Coordinator (Internal)

About the role

The Protection Coordinator leads the International Rescue Committee’s protection programming in Nigeria, overseeing child protection, women’s protection and empowerment, and protection & rule of law streams. Reporting to senior management, the role ensures safety outcomes are achieved and protection is mainstreamed across all IRC activities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction and technical leadership for protection interventions in Nigeria.
• Develop and submit concept notes and donor proposals to expand the protection portfolio.
• Manage a multidisciplinary protection team, building capacity and ensuring high performance.
• Oversee the implementation of the Safety Outcome Strategy and monitor protection data quality.
• Coordinate with partners, government agencies, and communities to respond to cases of violence, coercion, and deprivation.
• Ensure protection considerations are integrated into all programmatic decisions and emergency responses.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years (60 months) of experience in protection programming within humanitarian contexts.
• Senior‑level experience managing teams and delivering high‑quality donor proposals.
• Strong understanding of the Nigerian protection landscape, including child protection and gender‑based violence.
• Excellent analytical, reporting, and communication skills in English.
• Demonstrated ability to work in complex, multicultural environments.
