Program Officer – Health Advocacy (12‑month LTE)

About the role

The Gates Foundation is seeking a Program Officer to lead health advocacy initiatives in Nigeria for a 12‑month limited‑term appointment. You will work within the Global Policy & Advocacy team to shape public policy, mobilise partners, and drive evidence‑based solutions that improve maternal and child health, infectious disease control, and broader health system outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate advocacy and communications strategies aligned with the foundation’s health priorities.
• Engage government officials, civil society, and private sector partners to build political will and influence policy and financing decisions.
• Manage advocacy grants and contracts, ensuring effective implementation and learning.
• Collaborate with program teams, Africa PGRP, Global Policy & Advocacy, and Communications colleagues to align advocacy efforts with program goals.
• Monitor policy developments, produce analysis, and provide recommendations to senior leadership.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in health policy, advocacy, or related fields, preferably in low‑ and middle‑income contexts.
• Strong understanding of Nigeria’s health system, policy environment, and stakeholder landscape.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple priorities.
