Operations Engineer

About the role

Build-a-Tech Incubator & Workspace is a hardware technology accelerator that equips start-ups with resources, mentorship and tools to build tech products. It is looking for an Operations Engineer to run its technical and facility operations in a world-class workspace, ensuring reliability, safety and efficiency across engineering activities. The position is full-time and on-site in Uyo, Akwa Ibom.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily technical operations of the fabrication lab and engineering workspace.
• Monitor and maintain equipment such as 3D printers, CNC machines and laser cutters, and implement preventive maintenance schedules with maintenance logs.
• Troubleshoot equipment faults and coordinate repairs or part replacements.
• Monitor power systems and ensure operational continuity of energy infrastructure.
• Maintain inventory of tools, consumables and spare parts.
• Develop and document standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and enforce equipment handling protocols.
• Support project teams during prototyping, testing and deployment, and prepare periodic operational and performance reports.

Required profile

• Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related field; experience and proficiency in the duties and skills are weighed above formal qualifications.
• Experience in a fabrication lab, workshop or technical facility.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve equipment issues, with good organisational and documentation skills.
• Optional: facility management or lab supervision experience, familiarity with renewable energy and backup power, basic knowledge of embedded systems or automation, and experience supervising interns or trainees.

Shifts are 08:00-16:00, 09:00-17:00 or 10:00-18:00, with one Saturday per month (09:00-17:00). Salary is N100,000 to N150,000 per month depending on experience, qualifications and education. Apply through the employment application form, which requires a Google account.
