Medical Officer Internship – Clinical Experience

About the role

We are looking for a motivated graduate to join our medical facility on the IITA campus in Ibadan as a Medical Officer Intern. The role offers hands‑on experience managing a variety of clinical cases across medical, surgical, OB‑GYN and paediatric care while working closely with a Family Physician and senior staff. The internship lasts for a defined period and provides exposure to both outpatient and inpatient services.

Key responsibilities

• Assess and manage common medical, surgical, obstetric‑gynaecological and paediatric conditions.
• Provide first‑aid and emergency care for trauma, communicable and non‑communicable diseases.
• Deliver patient health education on hygiene, nutrition, lifestyle, family planning and disease prevention.
• Arrange referrals to external facilities in coordination with the Family Physician.
• Assist in scheduling and coordination of specialist clinics.
• Conduct follow‑up with patients according to clinical needs.
• Investigate clinical problems using laboratory and diagnostic equipment, including point‑of‑care testing.
• Support discharge planning together with the Family Physician and unit head.
• Perform any additional duties assigned by the supervisor or management.

Required profile

• MBBS or MBChB degree with completion of NYSC medical practice.
• Current annual medical practising licence.
• Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn and ability to follow through on tasks.
• Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.

Required skills

• Point‑of‑care diagnostic testing.
• Operation of medical laboratory and diagnostic equipment.
