Medical Officer – Ibadan

About the role

The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is seeking a qualified Medical Officer to provide clinical services at its headquarters in Ibadan, Nigeria. The role involves managing a wide range of medical conditions, delivering health education, and supporting occupational health activities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage common medical, surgical, OB‑GYN and paediatric conditions.
• Provide first aid for emergencies, including trauma, communicable and non‑communicable diseases.
• Set up intravenous infusions as needed.
• Deliver patient health education on hygiene, nutrition, lifestyle, family planning and disease prevention.
• Collaborate with nurses to create educational content for health seminars.
• Facilitate occupational health activities in liaison with the Occupational Health team.
• Arrange referrals to external health facilities in coordination with the Family Physician.
• Assist with scheduling and coordination of specialist clinics.
• Conduct point‑of‑care diagnostic testing and investigate clinical problems using laboratory equipment.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Supervisor.

Required profile

• MBBS/MBChB with a current annual medical practising licence.
• Minimum five (5) years of clinical practice covering outpatient, inpatient and paediatric care.
• Good organisational skills and ability to work under pressure.
• Competent in basic clinical and point‑of‑care procedures.
