Managing Director

About the role

The Managing Director will lead the cooperative’s daily operations, driving membership growth, overseeing credit and loan activities, and ensuring strong financial performance. Reporting to the Board/Executive Committee, the role combines strategic leadership with hands‑on management of staff and financial controls.

Key responsibilities

• Lead day‑to‑day operations of the cooperative and provide regular reports to the Board.
• Drive membership growth, savings mobilisation and overall business development.
• Oversee loan marketing, appraisal, disbursement, monitoring and recovery processes.
• Supervise accounting, financial reporting, cash management and internal control systems.
• Manage staff performance, teamwork, discipline and service delivery.
• Ensure proper documentation, regulatory compliance, risk management and audit readiness.
• Build and maintain relationships with members, groups, businesses and institutions in Kubwa and surrounding areas.

Required profile

• First degree in Accounting, Banking & Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Marketing, Cooperative Management or a related field.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in a managerial role within a financial institution, micro‑finance bank, cooperative or credit organisation.
• Proven experience in marketing, credit administration, accounting, loan management and team leadership.

Required skills

• Strong leadership, communication and team‑management abilities.
• In‑depth knowledge of cooperative operations, credit, loans, accounting and financial controls.
• Ability to handle member and staff relations professionally, including difficult conversations.
