Legal Associate - Lekki

About the role

A fast-growing law firm in Lekki, Lagos, is looking for a Legal Associate to join its legal team. The associate provides legal advice, manages litigation, conducts research, drafts and reviews documents, and supports clients in corporate, commercial and dispute resolution matters. The position is full-time, reports to the Managing Partner or Senior Associate, and pays N300,000 to N400,000 net per month.

Key responsibilities

• Give clients timely, accurate legal advice and interpret Nigerian laws, regulations and precedents
• Attend client meetings and negotiations, and advise on legal risks and mitigation
• Represent clients in court, arbitration, mediation and other dispute resolution forums; prepare and file pleadings, motions, affidavits, briefs and appeals
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts, and carry out due diligence for mergers, acquisitions and investments
• Prepare corporate governance documents, Board resolutions and statutory filings, and advise on company secretarial and regulatory compliance
• Conduct legal research, write opinions and memoranda, and keep a repository of precedents and templates
• Manage litigation files, monitor deadlines, and keep clients and partners informed
• Support business development, attend seminars and contribute to legal publications

Required profile

• LL.B from a recognized university and Barrister-at-Law (B.L.) qualification from the Nigerian Law School
• Duly called to the Nigerian Bar and enrolled as a Legal Practitioner of the Supreme Court of Nigeria
• 2-4 years of post-call experience in a reputable law firm
• Experience in litigation, corporate and commercial law, dispute resolution and contract drafting; experience before superior courts is an added advantage

Required skills

• Legal drafting, litigation advocacy and negotiation
• Sound knowledge of Nigerian corporate, commercial, property, labour and civil law
• Legal research and analytical skills
• Microsoft Office Suite and legal research tools
