Legal and Compliance Manager - Banking and Fintech

About the role

WayaBank, a digital bank serving personal and business customers in Nigeria, is hiring a Legal and Compliance Manager for its banking and fintech operations. The role is full-time and based in Lekki with a hybrid arrangement of about 2 to 3 days per week in the office. It oversees regulatory compliance across the bank's digital banking and fintech activities, ensuring adherence to Nigerian banking, financial services and data protection laws.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor regulatory changes and update internal policies and procedures
• Review and draft legal documents and contracts
• Conduct compliance risk assessments
• Develop and implement compliance frameworks
• Lead internal audits and investigations into compliance issues
• Support licensing, reporting and regulatory filings
• Provide guidance and training to cross-functional teams
• Work with senior leadership on risk mitigation strategies and partner with regulators and external counsel when needed

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Law (LL.B) and a professional qualification such as a BL; advanced legal or compliance certifications are an advantage
• Proven experience in banking, fintech or financial services compliance, with a track record of managing regulatory relationships
• Strong analytical, risk assessment and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, digital-first environment
