Job description

About the role

CredPal, a fintech company offering credit cards and investment solutions, is hiring a Lead, Legal & Recovery in Lagos. The role owns the legal recovery strategy and execution, taking full ownership of the recovery portfolio and moving decisively from demand and negotiation to legal escalation, external recovery, field action, litigation, settlement and enforcement where appropriate. It is a full-time, hybrid position.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and run structured recovery strategies across delinquency buckets, high-value exposures, written-off accounts and difficult portfolios.
  • Determine the right legal recovery route and ensure timely escalation through demand notices, settlement negotiations, litigation and enforcement.
  • Segment accounts by exposure, delinquency stage, customer profile and probability of recovery.
  • Drive demand letters, pre-action notices, settlement agreements and related documentation.
  • Manage external law firms, recovery agencies, field agents and other partners against clear targets and timelines.
  • Manage the recovery litigation portfolio from commencement through judgment and enforcement.
  • Coordinate lawful field recovery and lead negotiations with customers and counterparties, structuring repayment plans and recommending settlements.
  • Work with Collections, Credit, Risk, Finance, Data and Operations teams, and use customer, transaction, employment, banking, contact and location data to improve recovery, within applicable laws and policies.
  • Track every escalated account, its status, expected recovery and next steps, and report weekly to management.
  • Evaluate recovery economics, maintain complete documentation and evidence, and advise on legal risks and compliance with Nigerian law and consumer protection standards.

Required profile

  • Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) and B.L., with admission to the Nigerian Bar.
  • 5-8 years of post-call experience with significant exposure to debt recovery, commercial litigation, banking, lending, fintech or financial services.
  • Proven track record recovering significant delinquent or difficult debt portfolios.
  • Experience managing external counsel, recovery agencies, field teams and third-party partners.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical, investigative and drafting skills, and the ability to work with senior management.

Required skills

  • Understanding of Nigerian lending, credit, contract, insolvency, enforcement and consumer-protection frameworks.
  • Ability to prioritise cases by value, urgency, enforceability and probability of recovery.
  • Excellent drafting of demand notices, settlement agreements and legal correspondence.

What we offer

  • Competitive salary and performance-based incentives.
  • Hybrid work arrangement with flexibility.
  • Career growth and professional development opportunities.
  • Exposure to high-impact fintech operations and a collaborative, inclusive culture.
