Import and Clearing Officer

About the role

The Import and Clearing Officer will manage end‑to‑end importation and customs clearance processes, ensuring timely, efficient and cost‑effective movement of goods while complying with Nigerian regulations and company policies.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate all import activities from shipment initiation to final delivery.
• Prepare, review and manage import documentation such as Form M, PAAR, Bill of Lading, invoices and other regulatory papers.
• Liaise with customs authorities, shipping lines, freight forwarders, clearing agents and regulatory bodies (e.g., NAFDAC, SON).
• Ensure strict compliance with Nigerian customs regulations and government policies.
• Track shipments, provide regular updates to internal stakeholders and resolve any clearing issues or delays.
• Manage duty payments and drive cost efficiency in clearing operations.
• Maintain accurate records of all import transactions and coordinate transportation of cleared goods to company locations.
• Monitor and evaluate performance of clearing agents and service providers.
• Support other logistics and supply chain duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or a related field.
• 5–7 years of relevant experience in importation, customs clearing or logistics within a corporate or industrial environment.
• Professional certifications such as CISCP or CILT are an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of import documentation, compliance requirements and customs clearing procedures.
• Experience in vendor and stakeholder management.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ERP systems, particularly SAP.
