HSE Officer

About the role

Dangote Packaging Limited is looking for an HSE Officer to develop, implement and enforce safety policies, procedures and statutory regulations within its manufacturing plant. The role protects factory personnel, minimizes hazards around heavy industrial machinery (extruders, circular looms, conversion lines) and ensures safe handling of raw polypropylene polymers, aiming for a zero-harm operational culture.

Key responsibilities

• Enforce company HSE policies, SOPs and national industrial safety regulations, and ensure compliance with occupational health and safety laws, environmental standards and labour codes
• Carry out regular statutory inspections and audits of infrastructure, firefighting equipment and safety gear
• Monitor high-risk areas, enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) during machine maintenance, and run daily safety walks and Job Safety Analyses across Extrusion, Weaving, Lamination, Printing and Convertex Conversion
• Identify ergonomic hazards, slip/trip risks, noise pollution and machinery guarding issues and recommend corrective actions
• Maintain records of incidents, injuries and environmental metrics, compile monthly HSE reports and lead investigations into accidents, near misses and injuries
• Run toolbox talks, induction and safety training (forklift safety, machine guarding, chemical handling), promote PPE use and coordinate fire drills, evacuation training and first-aid simulations

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or HND in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering or a related field
• 2 to 4 years of hands-on HSE experience in heavy manufacturing, plastics processing or industrial production
• Professional certification such as NEBOSH, IOSH or a local HSE certificate is strongly preferred

• Excellent communication, firm disciplinary and persuasive abilities, high attention to detail and calm handling of emergencies
