Housemistress – Boarding House Leader

About the role

Olumawu School is looking for a dedicated Housemistress to lead the boarding house in Abuja. The role focuses on ensuring the safety, welfare, and personal development of resident students while fostering a supportive and disciplined environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily boarding house operations, routines, and schedules.
• Ensure the safety, health, and well‑being of all boarding students.
• Maintain discipline while creating a warm, nurturing atmosphere.
• Monitor academic progress, attendance, and personal development of students.
• Provide guidance, mentorship, and emotional support.
• Organise recreational activities and house programmes.
• Keep accurate records of attendance, health incidents, and behaviour.
• Communicate effectively with parents, teachers, administrators, and healthcare providers.
• Ensure compliance with school policies, health regulations, and safeguarding procedures.
• Respond promptly to emergencies and welfare concerns.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Sciences, Child Development or related field.
• Minimum three years’ experience in a school, boarding, residential or pastoral‑care setting.
• Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership abilities.
• Professionalism, confidentiality and maturity in handling student welfare issues.
• Excellent organisational and problem‑solving skills.
• Knowledge of child safeguarding and welfare practices.
• First Aid certification is an advantage.
• Willingness to reside on campus if required.
