Health and Nutrition Assistant

About the role

The Health and Nutrition Assistant supports the planning, execution and evaluation of primary health care and public health initiatives in humanitarian and development contexts. The role helps maintain the quality of health services, drives disease prevention and promotes community well-being among vulnerable populations, working closely with the team on health monitoring and care programs.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in health needs assessments, outbreak investigations and disease surveillance, collecting and analysing health data
• Support planning and supervision of clinic and mobile health activities, focusing on maternal and child health, immunization and nutrition integration
• Coordinate with health authorities, partners and sector clusters and represent the team in health coordination meetings
• Train, mentor and support health staff, community health workers and volunteers
• Manage medical supplies, monitor inventory and ensure proper handling of essential medicines and cold chain logistics
• Run community health promotion campaigns, hygiene education and disease prevention initiatives
• Monitor project indicators, prepare reports and keep data confidential and accurate
• Ensure compliance with national protocols, WHO standards, Sphere guidelines and infection prevention and control measures

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in Medicine, Nursing, Public Health or a related field; clinical license preferred
• At least two years of experience in health programs, preferably in NGOs or humanitarian settings
• Knowledge of primary health care, epidemiology, surveillance systems and health information management
• Strong communication, problem-solving, teamwork and report-writing skills
• Able to work under pressure, travel to remote locations and respect local cultural norms
• Fluent in English and the local language; project management or public health certifications are an advantage
