Head of Recovery

About the role

The Head of Recovery will lead Moniepoint’s debt recovery function, designing and executing a comprehensive framework to minimise credit losses. Reporting to senior management, you will combine legal expertise with data‑driven tactics to protect the company’s financial health.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement recovery strategies to reduce non‑performing loans and bad‑debt provisions.
• Serve as the primary legal strategist for the recovery unit, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and debt‑collection laws.
• Manage relationships with external stakeholders such as law‑enforcement agencies, regulators and external counsel to accelerate resolution of delinquent accounts.
• Design the recovery organisation, lead recruitment and set performance KPIs for the team.
• Provide ongoing training to the recovery network in line with best practices.
• Report recovery performance and insights to senior leadership.
• Collaborate with credit, legal, risk and finance departments to align recovery activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) and at least 7 years of debt recovery or litigation experience in Nigeria.
• Deep knowledge of Nigerian debt‑recovery laws, banking regulations and court procedures.
• Proven track record leading recovery teams and handling high‑value non‑performing loans across all six geopolitical zones.
• Strong network of legal and law‑enforcement contacts nationwide.
• Excellent negotiation, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
