Head of Marketing – South Africa & Nigeria

About the role

Luno is looking for a senior marketing leader to own and execute the marketing strategy for its two most important African markets – South Africa and Nigeria. Reporting to the VP of Marketing, you will be the primary voice for the region in global planning cycles and will have full ownership of strategy, budget, and team performance.

Key responsibilities

• Define and author the annual and quarterly marketing strategy for South Africa (defending market leadership) and Nigeria (building brand presence and performance infrastructure).
• Directly manage a regional team of specialists across Creative, CRM, performance marketing, and ATL functions such as events, PR, and sponsorships.
• Own the regional marketing budget, allocating spend across channels, campaigns, events, and partnerships with clear commercial justification.
• Translate Luno’s global priorities into locally‑relevant plans that reflect market realities, competitive dynamics, and customer behaviour.
• Collaborate with central functions to ensure execution quality and adherence to standards.

Required profile

• Proven senior‑level experience leading marketing teams in fast‑moving, regulated or high‑growth environments.
• Demonstrated ability to develop data‑driven, commercially justified marketing strategies.
• Strong track record of managing sizable budgets and delivering measurable business outcomes.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence global leadership.

Required skills

• Experience with CRM platforms and performance marketing tools.
• Knowledge of ATL/brand marketing, events, PR, and sponsorship activation.
• Ability to analyse market data and translate insights into actionable plans.
