Group HSE Manager

About the role

The Group HSE Manager will lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of Health, Safety and Environmental policies across all business units, locations and departments. This senior position ensures compliance with Nigerian regulations and international standards while fostering a safety‑first culture.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and roll out a group‑wide HSE policy and strategy, establishing performance metrics and KPIs.
• Conduct risk assessments, hazard identification and ensure compliance with NESREA, NSITF, Ministry of Labour and standards such as ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
• Lead HSE audits, inspections and drive corrective actions.
• Coordinate health and safety programs, emergency preparedness, fire drills and evacuation procedures.
• Design and deliver HSE training for staff and contractors, including toolbox talks and safety drills.
• Investigate incidents and near‑misses, perform root‑cause analysis and report to management and regulators.
• Oversee environmental practices including waste management, emission control, energy and water conservation, and produce quarterly sustainability reports.
• Engage with regulators, auditors, local communities and represent the group in industry forums.
• Build and manage a network of site‑specific HSE officers, providing coaching and performance evaluation.

Required profile

• Proven experience developing and implementing HSE policies at a group or corporate level.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with Nigerian HSE regulations.
• Experience leading HSE audits, incident investigations and driving corrective actions.
• Strong capability to design and deliver HSE training programmes.
• Ability to manage and mentor a distributed team of HSE professionals.
