Technical Director – Nigeria

About the role

The Technical Director ensures technical quality in the design and implementation of the USDA Food for Progress Nigeria project, focusing on poultry and aquaculture productivity and trade expansion. Reporting to the Chief of Party, the role is based in Lagos with significant travel to project regions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design, implementation and monitoring of the three project activities aimed at improving productivity and reducing non‑tariff trade barriers.
• Provide technical leadership, training and mentoring to project staff and beneficiaries, identifying bottlenecks and facilitating stakeholder coordination.
• Coordinate with government agencies, local partners and sector experts to align activities with USDA strategy and local priorities.
• Manage sub‑recipients, ensure compliance with subaward terms and prepare high‑quality technical reports for USDA.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (preferably Master’s) in agronomy, agriculture, aquaculture or a related field.
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience managing agricultural projects, especially in rural development, finance and trade.
• Demonstrated expertise in Nigeria’s poultry and aquaculture sectors and experience with trade facilitation.
• Proven ability to work directly with government entities, private stakeholders and project beneficiaries.
• Excellent written and oral English communication skills and willingness to travel up to 40 % of the time.
