Group Head, Treasury

About the role

The Group Head, Treasury leads the treasury function across a multi‑currency, multi‑entity group, safeguarding financial assets, optimizing liquidity and managing financial risk. The role is critical for funding growth, overseeing banking relationships and deploying treasury technology in a complex African market environment.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute the Group’s liquidity management framework, ensuring optimal cash positioning and maintaining rolling cash‑flow forecasts.
• Oversee bank reconciliation processes, integrating banks with the ERP system and enforcing a unified reconciliation policy.
• Optimize working‑capital funding and manage trapped cash strategies in restricted‑currency markets.
• Develop and implement the Financial Risk Management policy, execute hedging strategies, and report VaR, CFaR and stress‑test results.
• Support debt origination and refinancing, maintain the capital structure and negotiate banking facilities and covenants.
• Manage banking relationships, conduct annual reviews, RFPs and wallet‑share optimisation across Tier 1 and pan‑African banks.
• Lead Treasury Management System implementation, automate payments and reconciliations via API and AI‑enabled processes, and enforce SOX‑equivalent controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related discipline; Master’s or MBA advantageous.
• Professional qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, ACT or CFA.
• 10–15 years of progressive treasury experience, including at least 3 years in a senior or group leadership role.
• Proven experience managing treasury across multiple currencies and jurisdictions, especially in African or emerging markets.

Required skills

• Treasury Management System (TMS) implementation and integration with ERP (e.g., Business Central).
• API connectivity for real‑time cash positioning and payment processing.
• AI‑enabled process automation for bank reconciliations and payments.
• Design and maintenance of SOX‑equivalent internal controls and segregation of duties.
