Golang Backend Engineer

About the role

FairMoney is a mobile banking institution focused on credit for emerging markets, operating mainly in Nigeria. As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design and build scalable backend and platform services that power its financial products, work on complex distributed systems and contribute to architectural and technology decisions. You will also mentor other engineers and own medium to large projects from design through deployment.

Key responsibilities

• Build high-quality backend features with the Product team and evolve platform services that let each market add features while keeping a common core.
• Design scalable solutions for complex financial processes and drive architecture and technology decisions.
• Design, develop and deploy medium to large projects, and maintain reliable, scalable distributed systems.
• Improve relational database schemas for data integrity, performance and scalability.
• Contribute to coding standards, code reviews, testing and operational excellence, and mentor other engineers.
• Improve monitoring, CI/CD and platform integrations, and work with other teams to turn technical requirements into solutions.

Required profile

• 5+ years of professional backend software development experience.
• Strong experience designing distributed systems and building platform services or shared backend infrastructure.
• Strong experience with relational database design, SQL, indexing and performance optimization.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, system design and object-oriented design, with good problem-solving and communication skills.
• Preferred: experience with microservices, cloud providers (AWS, GCP or Azure), high-volume systems, fintech, mentoring engineers and full-stack experience.
