General Manager, Technical and Operations

About the role

The General Manager, Technical and Operations leads all technical and operational functions of the DSR Apapa refinery. Reporting to senior leadership, this role ensures seamless refinery operations, drives yield improvement, cost optimisation and the adoption of new technologies while maintaining the highest safety and regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement production and operational strategies aligned with business objectives and budgets.
• Lead yield improvement initiatives and enforce cost‑reduction measures.
• Oversee refinery operations to ensure compliance with product quality, technical specifications and safety standards.
• Supervise maintenance, engineering and technical functions to guarantee equipment reliability and plant efficiency.
• Drive introduction of new technologies, automation and continuous improvement programmes.
• Manage stakeholder relationships with regulators, host communities, vendors and technical partners.
• Prepare and manage operational budgets, ensuring fiscal discipline and optimal resource utilisation.
• Lead refinery modernisation and process automation projects.
• Mentor and develop functional managers to build a strong leadership pipeline.
• Ensure strict compliance with HSSE, environmental and sustainability standards.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology or a related technical field.
• Minimum 20 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in a senior management position within a manufacturing or refinery environment.
• Professional certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.
• Membership in a recognised engineering body (e.g., COREN, NSE) is an advantage.
