Finance Manager - Petroleum Downstream

About the role

A client, a leader in the petroleum downstream sector importing and trading petroleum motor spirit (PMS) in Nigeria, is expanding and needs an experienced Financial Manager. The role covers accounting, tax and financial reporting, reports to the Executive Director, has no direct reports and is based in Lagos.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure accurate and timely recording in the accounting system, including accruals, and carry out regular bank reconciliations and document filing
• Prepare the monthly oil assets reporting package for oil management in Nigeria and London, and the monthly trade reporting analysis for London
• File local regulatory returns and pay admin fees, PEF, provisional tax, WHT and VAT on time
• Prepare annual financial statements, returns and audit backup files; handle tax administration and ensure proofs are obtained and filed
• Manage external and internal auditors and negotiate with authorities
• Coordinate the asset budget and assist in preparing a budget
• Lead projects such as reporting improvement and cost analysis

Required profile

• Recognized professional accounting qualification and at least 3 years of post-qualification experience in industry or practice
• Ability to work independently and take responsibility
• Confidence dealing with management and demanding authorities
• Organised, assertive and an excellent communicator

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Excel (mandatory)
• IFRS knowledge (mandatory)
• SAGE/Peachtree and SAP Business One experience is advantageous but not required
• An audit background and oil and gas experience are advantageous but not required
