Engineering Manager (Project) - Pipeline Projects

About the role

The Engineering Manager oversees all engineering activities performed by contractors and design consultants, ensuring that pipeline systems, HDD crossings, cathodic protection systems and electrical infrastructure comply with company standards, international codes and project specifications. The role ensures technical integrity through design, construction support and commissioning.

Key responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate engineering disciplines including pipeline, HDD, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and cathodic protection, and review and approve engineering deliverables from EPC contractors and consultants.
• Monitor engineering schedules and ensure timely issuance of design documents.
• Review pipeline routing, HDD crossing designs, cathodic protection systems, electrical power supply and distribution, and pipeline rehabilitation works, and ensure constructability reviews before construction.
• Coordinate technical interfaces between EPC contractors, design consultants, company engineering teams and construction supervision teams, and resolve engineering conflicts.
• Support construction by reviewing technical queries, RFIs and site engineering changes, and approving engineering change requests and technical deviations.
• Ensure compliance with project specifications, international pipeline standards and safety and environmental requirements, and support HAZID, HAZOP and constructability reviews.
• Control engineering documentation, verify as-built documentation and engineering dossiers before project close-out, and identify and mitigate technical risks.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, with emphasis on cross-country pipelines.
• At least 15 years of progressive experience in engineering or technical leadership on large-scale pipeline projects.
• Demonstrated experience managing EPC from an Owner PMC contractor's status; experience on Nigerian projects preferred but other international locations acceptable.
• Professional Engineer (PE) or equivalent certification preferred.
• Ability to lead senior technical professionals and communicate complex technical concepts clearly to the Owner.

Required skills

• Fully conversant with Microsoft 365 Suite and industry-recognized management software.
• Strong understanding of underground cross-country pipelines, including HDD, project development, design, construction sequencing and commissioning.
• Expertise in interface management, technical risk management and change management.
• Proficiency in engineering management systems, project management tools and technical reporting.
