Deputy Provost – Academic Leadership

About the role
The Deputy Provost supports the Provost in providing strategic, academic and administrative leadership for the College of Nursing. Acting on behalf of the Provost when required, the role ensures implementation of policies, maintenance of academic standards and promotion of excellence in education, research and community service.
Key responsibilities
- Provide academic leadership by developing and implementing policies, ensuring compliance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria, NBTE, JAMB and other regulators, monitoring teaching quality and coordinating curriculum development and accreditation activities.
- Oversee day‑to‑day academic and administrative operations, coordinate departments and committees, and assist in preparing institutional reports, strategic plans and annual work plans.
- Support student affairs through policy development, admission, orientation, progression, graduation processes and handling student complaints.
- Lead internal quality assurance, monitor performance indicators, ensure compliance with accreditation requirements and prepare for external quality assessments.
- Participate in human‑resource functions including staff recruitment, orientation, mentoring, performance evaluation and identification of training needs.
- Assist in financial planning, budget preparation, monitoring and efficient utilization of resources, as well as resource mobilization initiatives.
- Represent the Provost at meetings, conferences and regulatory engagements, and serve on institutional committees.
- Act as Provost during periods of absence, ensuring continuity of leadership and decision‑making.
Required profile
- Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc.) from a recognized institution.
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
- Registered Midwife (RM) licensed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria.
- Master of Science (M.Sc.) or higher academic qualification.
