Data Engineer – Fintech

About the role

Our client, a technology company focused on payments solutions for African businesses, is looking for a Data Engineer to design, build and maintain data platforms at scale. The role is hybrid, based in Nigeria, and involves working in a remote‑first environment with cross‑functional teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement data ingestion pipelines for batch and streaming data.
• Develop, test and maintain data processing workflows using Python and orchestration tools such as Apache Airflow.
• Manage streaming infrastructure with Kafka, Debezium and Kafka Connect.
• Build and optimise data storage solutions across relational (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redshift) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases.
• Deploy infrastructure as code using Terraform, Kubernetes and Helm.
• Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to provide reliable data for reporting and machine‑learning models.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 3 years of data engineering experience and at least 2 years of software development.
• Proven ability to work independently and within a remote‑first, hybrid team.

Required skills

• Python (essential); JavaScript, Scala (advantageous).
• Kafka ecosystem: Kafka, Debezium, Kafka Connect.
• Workflow orchestration: Apache Airflow (preferred), Databricks, Dagster, Airbyte.
• Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redshift; familiarity with BigQuery, SingleStore.
• Infrastructure: Terraform, Kubernetes, Helm.
• Cloud: AWS services.
• SQL (complex queries) and CI/CD pipeline setup.
• Unit and integration testing.
• BI tools: Tableau, Looker, DOMO (exposure).
