Data Engineer – Fintech (Hybrid, Nigeria)

About the role

Our client, a technology company focused on payments solutions for African businesses, is looking for a Data Engineer to join its Data Engineering team. The role is hybrid, based in Nigeria, and involves building and extending data platforms that support large‑scale ingestion, processing, storage and egress.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain data pipelines for real‑time and batch processing.
• Build and manage the underlying infrastructure that powers data platforms.
• Implement streaming solutions using Kafka, Debezium and Kafka Connect.
• Orchestrate workflows with tools such as Apache Airflow, Databricks, Dagster or Airbyte.
• Collaborate with product and analytics teams to ensure data reliability and availability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 3 years of data‑engineering experience and 2 years of software development experience.
• Proactive, able to work independently and collaboratively in a remote‑first environment.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and a willingness to learn new technologies.

Required skills

• Python (essential); JavaScript, Scala (advantageous).
• Kafka, Debezium, Kafka Connect.
• Apache Airflow, Databricks, Dagster, Airbyte.
• MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redshift, BigQuery, SingleStore.
• Terraform, Kubernetes, Helm.
• AWS services.
• Advanced SQL and ability to write complex queries.
• Unit and integration testing, CI/CD pipeline setup.
• Familiarity with BI tools such as Tableau, Looker, DOMO.
