Customer Service / Front Desk Officer

About the role

The Customer Service / Front Desk Officer provides essential support to patients, staff and visitors in a hospital environment. The role combines reception duties with the safe transport of patients, medical records and supplies, ensuring a smooth and courteous experience for all.

Key responsibilities

• Handle enquiries from customers, staff and patients in a courteous and efficient manner.
• Collect, transport and dispose of clinical waste, laundry and hospital refuse according to policy.
• Move X‑rays, reports, medical records, specimens and equipment between departments.
• Assist with lifting and mobilising patients following health‑and‑safety guidelines.
• Manage hospital post, mail and delivery of supplies.
• Perform cleaning duties in designated areas and maintain infection‑control standards.
• Operate telephone, reception and switchboard systems as required.
• Prepare laboratory orders, monitor stock levels and highlight low‑stock items.
• Carry out grounds‑maintenance tasks on weekends or bank holidays.
• Adhere to all health‑and‑safety, infection‑control, dress‑code and emergency‑plan procedures.

Required profile

• Reliability in reporting for duty on time and at the designated location.
• Ability to follow direction from supervisors and maintain confidentiality of patient and staff information.
• Flexibility to perform a variety of tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
• Familiarity with health‑and‑safety policies, lifting techniques and emergency procedures.
