Country Marketing Manager, Nigeria (Contractor)

About the role

Duolingo is looking for a remote contractor Country Marketing Manager for Nigeria to build awareness and accelerate growth in a mobile-first, fast-evolving digital landscape. Reporting to the Country Marketing Manager France, you will partner with Global Marketing and Product teams in Pittsburgh and New York and with country managers worldwide to create creative tactics and campaigns for the Nigerian consumer. Year one focuses on building Duolingo's presence in Nigeria from scratch, starting with social media.

Key responsibilities

• Sourcing, pitching and selecting a Nigerian social media agency, defining its brief and onboarding it
• Reviewing and approving content before it goes live, and overseeing the launch of @DuolingoNigeria on TikTok, Instagram and other platforms
• Building creator and influencer relationships and holding the agency accountable
• Once the social foundation is solid, developing a wider brand awareness strategy and pitching strategic partnerships
• Leading PR efforts and working with HQ teams on localised messaging for feature launches

Required profile

• 5+ years of consumer marketing experience, with social media at the core
• Proven experience briefing, selecting and managing creative or social media agencies
• Track record of results through ideas, earned media, organic growth and word of mouth
• Deep knowledge of Nigerian digital culture, platforms, creators and humour
• Remote work experience and strong relationship-building with a global HQ team
• Excellent spoken and written English

Bonus points

• Experience scaling international or regional brands in Nigeria
• Fluency in Pidgin, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa or another local language
• A love of language learning
• Experience with mobile apps and subscription products

The interview consists of a 30-45 minute chat with the hiring manager and a 45-minute take-home case study and presentation on launching Duolingo on social in Nigeria.
