Country Director - Nigeria

About the role

The Country Director will lead Terre des hommes’ programmes in Nigeria, overseeing strategic direction, operational management and partnership development across five states. Reporting to the regional hub, the role ensures the delivery of health, WASH, migration, education, child protection and justice interventions while safeguarding children in complex humanitarian settings.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement the country strategy in line with Tdh’s global vision and donor requirements.
• Provide operational leadership for programmes in Borno, Benue, Nasarawa, Ondo and Cross River, ensuring quality and impact.
• Manage a multidisciplinary team, including local staff and international experts, fostering a culture of accountability and learning.
• Coordinate with government authorities, civil‑society partners and private sector actors, notably on the Child Rights in Business initiative.
• Oversee donor relations, reporting and financial management for funding from SDC, ECHO, OCHA, IOM and others.
• Ensure robust safeguarding mechanisms and compliance with humanitarian standards.
• Represent Tdh in national forums, media and stakeholder meetings.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of senior‑level experience managing multi‑sector humanitarian or development programmes.
• Proven experience in Nigeria’s humanitarian context, including conflict‑affected areas.
• Strong strategic, analytical and leadership capabilities.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills with donors, governments and partners.
• Willingness to travel regularly to Benue and Borno states.
